Gay bars featuring male dancing gigolos are dying in Cebu

I am a fan of Queer as Folks US and I like how the show portrays different gay lifestyles. There is no one uniform gay lifestyle. As the colors of rainbow are many, so are the types of gay and their lifestyles. And one of the differences in gay lifestyle is the different gay bars shown on QaF.

There is the billiards and pub-like gay bar in which gay and even straight, though few, patrons can hang out and be themselves. And there is also thump-thumping, ray lights-abound gay bar where the gays go dance and, again, be themselves. I prefer both.

Here in Cebu, the site for gays to be like owls and dance like wolves is now  in Mango Square area. Numero Doce and Alchology have now been perceived as gay bars but they are more prescribed as M2M bars. Why is that?

I believe that the term gay bar is originally meant for a watering hole with male dancers in skimpy suits (and sometimes none). Actually, if I base it on QaF, these guys are go-go boys or strippers and are parading sexily to catch patrons. The thing here in Cebu is that many female patrons are now flocking in this kind of bar. So can we still call them gay bars if the patrons are now an odd mix of female and male?

In Cebu, the odds are even greater because female Koreans, from young to old, go to these gay bars to watch almost nude young men on stage prancing and pole-dancing. And what makes it odder is that these male strippers won't even be classified as gay. They can't even be gay-for-pay. They prey on patrons for money. Thankfully, young generation of gays in Cebu have become smarter and have learned to surpass the male strippers in looks. I would say many gay metrosexual men in Cebu look better than the dancing male gigolos.

I went to Navigator gay bar last night and I was somehow surprised that the bar had less customers on a Friday night. Although they have good-looking guys but they still outnumbered the patron's population on that night.

I believe the trend now is that the gays are seeking other gays for relationship or one night stands in the central gay district in Cebu with bars like Alchology and Numero Doce. Guys in gay bars such as Navigator are moneymongers and I don't think gays in Cebu anymore like them except for desperate gays and oldies, perhaps.

These gay bars are now dying. They should have changed business concept and must now cater to gay young professionals in Cebu who like less noisy environment but still a place to pick up gay men for ONS or relationships.

Cheetah gay bar which is very popular is now even closed. Other gay bars such as Navigator and Tarzan are among the "premium" gay bars in Cebu. Navigator should be taken in spotlight as this the gay bar in Cebu with male dancers who are all good-looking. They're all good-looking, alright, but I think they are not the flavors of the month of the gays but by female patrons of the bar.

And please stop hiring gigolos who are assholes and want to get money. The LGBT community in Cebu should be active in classifying commercial areas where gays can be themselves in a social setting, in which there is a room to mingle and go eyeballing with potential interests, not a place where gays will be vacuumed out of money by male whores.

  1. Gay bars kick off their course of action with the serving of alcohol, which is a customary sight for gay and lesbian bars across the world. Actually this serving leads to the foremost goal and that is of offering a place for conversation and relaxation to their gay clientele. buff bum butlers birmingham
